Zero Ceiling
Community assistance for youth through sport
Zero Ceiling is a charitable society that offers adventure-based learning through snowboarding, as well as employment skills training and personal development to inner-city youth from Vancouver. 2010 Legacies Now has partnered with Zero Ceiling and Grouse Mountain to deliver the Zero Ceiling learn-to- snowboard program; 2010 Legacies Now also supports the Zero Ceiling Work-to-Live program.
Community partnerships make an impact
In 2009, 75 inner-city youth rose to new heights thanks to a tailored learn-to-snowboard program at Grouse Mountain. 2010 Legacies Now has a two-year partnership with Zero Ceiling and Grouse Mountain to provide this day-visit program to inner-city youth.
Grouse Mountain’s contribution to the program includes lift tickets for the students, volunteers and chaperones, rental equipment, a 1.5-hour lesson with the Snow School and the provision of a healthy meal for all the students.
Participants of this program are learning new skills and a new activity that promotes greater personal well-being.
Long-term community development program
2010 Legacies Now also supports Zero Ceiling’s Work-to-Live program. This involves working with youth agencies throughout BC to select individuals who are ready to turn their lives around. Once identified, these individuals move to one of the host mountains to spend a year undertaking employment and life-skills training, regular counselling, and alpine sports accreditation to become recreational leaders.
