Local Sport Council Development Program
Community Partnership in Sport
Through the Local Sport Council Development Program, various groups in B.C. communities have formed Sport Councils to collaboratively promote sport and recreation and healthy living initiatives in their regions. 2010 Legacies Now is piloting this program in more than six sites in B.C. by assisting local government to bring together community sport, parks and recreation leaders and health services organizations.
Developing Local Leadership in Sport and Recreation
The Local Sport Council Development Program aims to support sport leadership development by creating centralized Sport Councils for community sport leaders and parks and recreation staff in B.C. communities.
2010 Legacies Now provide financial support for the establishment of six Sport Council pilot sites in British Columbia in 2009. Additional consulting support was given to more than 15 other communities who are working to establish Local Sport Councils. Among the benefits being realized by piloting and interested communities is an online network for communication, access to resources, advocacy support and programming best practices.
