The Vancouver Bid for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games creates 2010 Legacies Now to focus on sport development, community capacity building and a province-wide community outreach program

2002

2010 Legacies Now transfers to an independent not-for-profit society

2003

Vancouver-Whistler wins the Bid to host the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games

The Accessibility and Inclusion Initiative launches

Action Schools! BC™ launches in Richmond

2004

Mandate expands to sport and recreation, the arts, volunteerism, literacy, and community programs and initiatives

The Sport Tourism Community Workshops and Hosting BC™ program launch

Catalyst, Innovations and Creative Communities programs are developed to support BC's arts and culture sector

The Literacy Now Communities program begins with 19 literacy task groups around the province embarking on a community-wide planning process to address local literacy needs.

2010 Legacies Now publishes and distributes the Literacy Now Planning Guide to communities wishing to begin work on their plan to address local literacy needs

2005

The Chill program launches in Vancouver

The Spirit of BC® program launches the province's first Spirit of BC Week

The Explorations summer camp program begins

2010 Legacies Now celebrates its new logo

Measuring Up, a guide to assist communities to assess and advance accessibility and inclusion, is published

VolWeb.ca™ launches

The 2010 Legacies Now Connecting Communities Tour, presented by Bell and the Province of BC starts its inaugural tour, visiting nine BC communities

14 BC communities receive funding for cultural planning through the Creative Communities program

Arts, cultural and heritage organizations in 42 BC communities receive funding through the Catalyst and Innovations programs

Literacy Now Communities program releases a video/DVD on the community planning process and importantance of community collaboration and support of literacy

2006

The RBC 2010 Legacies Now Speaker Series hosts its first speaker

The Chill program launches in Prince George

70 communities throughout BC celebrate the second annual Spirit of BC® Week

The Celebrations toolkit is made available to communities planning arts celebrations

The 2010 Legacies Now Connecting Communities Tour, presented by Bell and the Province of BC starts its second tour, visiting 10 BC communities

11 BC communities receive funding for cultural planning through the Creative Communities program

Arts, cultural and heritage organizations in 40 BC communities receive funding through the Catalyst and Innovations programs

Volunteer Victoria pilots the VolWeb.ca™ Volunteer Opportunities Listing Tool

34 new literacy task groups join the Literacy Now Communities program and 21 literacy task groups begin implementing their community literacy plans.

2007

Over 80 communities across the province celebrate the third annual Spirit of BC® Week 2007

The Spirit of 2010 Hockey Tournament brings together over 90 communities in BC and nearly 43,000 hockey players

Toolkits are published to assist communities with cultural mapping and cultural planning

Arts Partners in Creative Development, a historic six-partner program for the creation and development of new artistic works in British Columbia, launches

Five additional BC Volunteer centres use the VolWeb.ca™ Volunteer Opportunities Listing Tool to increase access to volunteer opportunities

VolWeb.ca™ launches its new volunteer scheduling tool in partnership with the 2007 Memorial Cup

2010 Legacies Now celebrates the launch of the newly redeveloped websites www.2010LegaciesNow.com and www.SpiritofBC.com
