Healthy Heroes Program, January 2010
The BC Cancer Agency developed a community program to help British Columbians lower their risk of cancer by learning how to make healthy lifestyle choices.
This program, called Healthy Heroes, helps youth identify people in their community who exemplify and inspire healthy living. Healthy Heroes partners with 2010 Legacies Now's Heroes Live Here program and is supported by the BC Cancer Agency Prevention Programs.
In January 2010, five groups of youth took their cameras and their Olympic spirit to the streets of Vancouver in search of their "Healthy Heroes." They produced five short films about people who inspire them to be healthy and active. These youth were mentored by students from the Capilano University Documentary Program and were assisted by youth leaders from Frog Hollow Neighbourhood House in making the videos.
