Creative Communities
Program funding for cultural planning
Creative Communities provides funding support to municipalities and other local governing bodies that undertake projects aimed at community cultural development.
Creating vibrant BC communities
Cultural planning can play a key role in community development by using the creative sector as a means to achieve social and economic objectives. Creative Communities supports community projects related to long-term cultural development by providing funding support to municipalities and other local governing bodies.
Arts funding support is available in three categories:
Cultural Mapping
A cultural map is an inventory and analysis of a community's cultural resources and corresponding patterns of usage by the public. This category helps communities take stock of the existing cultural environment: their strengths, challenges, aspirations and gaps. A cultural map community project achieves the following:
- Establishes the groundwork for a cultural plan and cultural tourism strategy
- Encourages a consultation process to promote community engagement
- Helps community leaders gain an understanding of the community's interests and concerns

Cultural Planning
Cultural planning is a process of community engagement through consultations and decision making that helps local government use information about cultural resources to develop and improve community programs and services.
This category supports municipal councils and other local governing bodies, staff and community partners in their efforts to develop and implement their cultural objectives.

Cultural Tourism Strategy
A Cultural Tourism Strategy supports local governing bodies, bands or tribal councils in developing a Cultural Tourism Strategy as an enhancement to an existing Cultural Plan. A comprehensive Cultural Tourism Strategy would expand the relationship between the tourism and arts and culture sectors while also building capacity and bridging understanding between both sectors.
