Recognizing community achievements

Between 2006 and 2009, 2010 Legacies Now sponsored the BC Sport Tourism Community Legacy Award, which is one of eight award categories in the BC Tourism Industry Awards. The BC Sport Tourism Community Legacy Award recognizes municipalities that demonstrate a beneficial community partnership between sport and local tourism over a four-year period.

2010 Legacies Now and the Sport Tourism Community Legacy Award

2010 Legacies Now sponsored the BC Sport Tourism Community Legacy Award (part of the BC Tourism Industry Awards) from 2006 to 2009. Tourism BC and the Council of Tourism Associations created the annual BC Tourism Industry Awards in 1999 to recognize outstanding contributors and innovators among the province’s local tourism industry.

In 2009, Tourism Abbotsford won the BC Sport Tourism Community Legacy Award in recognition of its successful Sport Town Canada marketing strategy created in 2005. The strategy provided leadership and strengthened support to local tourism groups, sport groups and event right holders in securing revenue-generating sport hosting opportunities. The events secured or expanded through the Sport Town Canada brand made a positive impact on community development, bringing benefit to the sport, the athletes and ultimately the local tourism industry.
