Building strength in the arts sector

2010 Legacies Now in collaboration with BC’s arts service organizations will present a series of Regional Arts Summits in British Columbia between 2009 and 2010. The Summits deliver professional development opportunities to people in the arts and cultural sector through community partnerships.


Regional educational programs in BC

2010 Legacies Now presents a series of Regional Arts Summits, in partnership with local arts organizations, including BC’s arts service organizations. The Summits offer professional development on topics such as financial sustainability, board development and marketing, as well as networking opportunities.

The Regional Arts Summits offer professional development to artists working in all genres and disciplines, arts organizations including arts councils, arts presenters, museum and gallery representatives, facility managers, students, businesses and government representatives.

The objective is to provide professional development to enhance the skills, knowledge and expertise of those working in the sector, as well as to strengthen regional networks to encourage increased communication, collaboration and cooperation.
 
The following are the host regions with dates:

  • Vancouver Arts Summit: completed
  • North West Arts Summit: completed
  • Vancouver Island Arts Summit: completed
  • Kootenay Arts Summit: completed
  • North East Arts Summit: September 17-18, 2010 in Fort. St. John
  • North Central Arts Summit: October 1-2, 2010 in Prince George
  • Thompson/Okanagan Arts Summit: October 20-21, 2010 in Kelowna

The educational programs include inspiring speakers, workshops, roundtable discussions, regional meetings, networking opportunities, performances and other special events. The length of the Summit will depend on the location, program and availability of host venues. The event will generally be one and a half to two days maximum.

Professional development topic areas may include (at various levels of difficulty):

  • Creating a Culturally Inclusive and Responsive Organization  
  • Board Development
  • Fundraising  
  • Financial Management  
  • Grant writing
  • Web 2.0 and Social Networking/Media
  • Marketing
