Action Schools! BC™
Healthy living model active in every BC school district
Action Schools! BC™ is active in 100% of BC school districts, promoting physical activity and healthy eating in schools. Understanding that each classroom is unique, Action Schools! BC is a best practices model allowing teachers and administrators to create individual action plans that will have the most impact on the healthy living habits of their students.
Providing resources to support healthy living activities
Action Schools! BC is a unique model for promoting physical activity and healthy eating in BC elementary and middle schools.
Action Schools! BC offers resource guides and equipment, as well as professional development, to participating schools. Action Schools! BC materials and resources have been developed to empower teachers as healthy living role models and support them in providing quality physical activity and healthy eating opportunities. It helps educators develop customized action plans to encourage healthy child development.
Currently, Action Schools! BC is in every BC school district. More than 1,500 kindergarten to Grade 7 and middle schools are registered Action Schools – and since Action Schools! BC started, 20,000 teachers and administrators, and 590,000 students have been involved.
Action Schools! BC™ was named 2008 national award winner of The Speaking of Food and Healthy Living Award in recognition of the model’s positive impact on school children. This annual Award is sponsored by the Dietitians of Canada and Kraft Canada.
