2010 LEGACIES NOW CONNECTING COMMUNITIES TOUR INSPIRES BRITISH COLUMBIANS TOWARD 2010 AND BEYOND

Vancouver, BC (June 9, 2008): The 2010 Legacies Now Connecting Communities Tour will travel to 16 community events and festivals over the next three months to inspire British Columbians to get more involved in their communities leading up to 2010 and beyond.

“Back for a fourth year, the 2010 Legacies Now Connecting Communities Tour will travel throughout British Columbia to share the Olympic and Paralympic spirit, and encourage British Columbians to start creating their own community legacies for tomorrow, today,” said Bruce Dewar, chief executive officer, 2010 Legacies Now.

Presented by Bell and the Province of British Columbia, the 2010 Legacies Now Connecting Communities Tour is an educational and interactive exhibit which will appeal to British Columbians of all ages. Visitors to the tour can learn how 2010 Legacies Now is working with the community to develop local programs and discover how their community can capitalize on exciting opportunities arising from the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Visitors can also test their sport skills at a miniature outdoor curling rink and interact with Olympic athletes through bell.ca/beijing and realchampions.ca.

“The Province of British Columbia is proud to support the 2010 Legacies Now Connecting Communities Tour as it visits more communities and connects even more British Columbians with opportunities in arts, sports, literacy, healthy living and volunteerism than ever before,” said Hon. Stan Hagen, Minister of Tourism, Sport and the Arts.

As a presenting sponsor, Bell contributed $1 million over four years to support the 2010 Legacies Now Connecting Communities Tour.

“We are extremely proud to help British Columbians connect to Canada’s athletes in Beijing and throughout their Olympic and Paralympic journeys to 2010,” said Justin Webb, vice president, Olympic Services, Bell. “We invite all British Columbians to cheer on the Canadian Olympic team and follow their progress by visiting bell.ca/beijing, and be part of the action.”

The 2010 Legacies Now Connecting Communities opened this past weekend at the Oak Bay Tea Party near Victoria. For a complete list of tour dates and locations, please visit www.2010LegaciesNow.com
