LEAP BC™ RECEIVES HONOURABLE MENTION FOR
COMMUNITY-CAMPUS PARTNERSHIPS FOR HEALTH AWARD

Vancouver, B.C. (May 22, 2008): 2010 Legacies Now's LEAP BC™ program, supported by the Province of British Columbia, is one of three partnerships to receive an honourable mention from Community-Campus Partnerships for Health (CCPH), a non-profit organization that presents an annual award recognizing successful collaborations between communities and higher educational institutions.

CCPH, based in Seattle, Washington, presented this year's award and announced the three honourable mention recipients May 4 at the Community-University Exposition in Victoria, B.C. All honorees were selected from a competitive pool of nominations assessed by community- and institution-based reviewers.

"On behalf of our many partners, we are thrilled and honoured to be recognized by CCPH for the strong connections, at both the provincial and local level, that are making LEAP BC possible," said Brenda Le Clair, managing director of strategic development and partnerships for 2010 Legacies Now. "By working together, we can reach more families in more communities across the province."

"LEAP BC is an innovative program that integrates literacy, physical activity and healthy eating into fun activities for the whole family," said Shirley Bond, Minister of Education. "Our government is proud to support this program that is helping B.C. children get the best possible start in life."

LEAP BC™ is a 2010 Legacies Now program in partnership with the Province of British Columbia and the University of Victoria. The program helps provide children from birth to age five with a strong foundation in literacy, physical activity and healthy eating, through fun activities and play.

The core of LEAP BC™ is community partnerships formed with government, non-government and stakeholder agencies at multiple levels, with the goal of providing free resources for families, and free resources, training and ongoing support for early learning practitioners.
