Accessibility Rating FAQs
What if my business is not accessible?
Businesses rated as not accessible will receive detailed feedback on areas to improve. We can also connect you with resources and suppliers to provide you with information on how to make those positive changes. Information of businesses rated as not accessible will be kept confidential; the information collected during the assessment will not be shared in any way.
Why should my business participate?
Participating in an accessibility assessment will lead to positive outcomes. If your business achieves a partial or fully accessibile rating in one of our three areas (mobility, hearing or visual), you will receive a package from your tourism agency including icons displaying this information. This rating can also be published in travel guides, online tourism websites, and your own website if applicable.
If your business is not currently accessible, you will receive detailed feedback on how to make improvements.
By improving and marketing the accessibility of your business, you will open doors to a large and often underserved population. You will also position your business as a leader in accessibility, a field that is quickly gaining interest and attention across the globe.
Does my business only get assessed once?
Following your initial assessment, if your business makes some positive changes in the area of accessibility, you can contact us for a second accessibility assessment. If you achieve a higher rating than previously, you will receive the appropriate new icons.
What does the assessment process involve?
Our assessment team will visit your business for 10-20 minutes during which they will take measurements and assess your business for mobility, hearing and visual accessibility. They will also need a few minutes of your time to answer some questions. You will also receive more information about our rogram and what to expect next.
Can my business be assessed if I’m not a member of a tourism association?
Yes. We would be more than happy to do an assessment of your business even if you are not a member of a regional or provincial tourism association. You will receive the detailed results report, relevant accessibility icons, and access to further resources and information.
