$1.7M TO DEVELOP ORIGINAL ARTISTIC WORKS AS CULTURAL LEGACIES FOR BRITISH COLUMBIA

Vancouver, B.C. (January 10, 2008): Twenty-four arts and cultural organizations from across British Columbia will receive a total of $1.7 million in the second round of funding from Arts Partners in Creative Development (APCD).

APCD was formed in March last year to support organizations in the creation and development of original works - in the performing, visual, media and literary arts - which represent artistic excellence and the diverse cultures of British Columbia. These arts and cultural organizations will display their work to audiences throughout the province, with some projects reaching audiences across the country and around the world.

The 24 organizations receiving funding in this round are from the following B.C. communities:

  • Kamloops
  • Kelowna
  • Madeira Park
  • Mission
  • Prince George
  • Surrey
  • Vancouver
  • Victoria
  • Whistler

APCD is a strategic partnership of the Province of B.C., City of Vancouver, Canada Council for the Arts, Vancouver Foundation, Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and 2010 Legacies Now.

With an initial investment of $6.5 million over three years, Arts Partners in Creative Development was established to contribute to the creation and development of original artistic works that will create extraordinary legacies for B.C. arts and cultural communities nationally and internationally. Eligible arts and cultural organizations can apply for up to 90 per cent of a proposed project’s development and/or commissioning costs, to a maximum of $300,000. The next deadline for applications is March 3, 2008.
