RBC 2010 LEGACIES NOW SPEAKER SERIES SHARES LESSONS IN BUSINESS, SPORT TOURISM AND TEAM HOSTING

Vancouver, B.C. (December 3, 2007): The RBC 2010 Legacies Now Speaker Series will bring Craig Phillips, secretary general of the Australian Olympic Committee, to British Columbia this week to discuss how communities and local businesses can capitalize on business, tourism and team hosting opportunities leading up to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

"British Columbia is in the perfect position to attract national teams from across the globe to come and train pre-2010," said Phillips. "I hope by sharing my experiences with communities and businesses that they will discover new ways to leverage opportunities generated by the 2010 Winter Games. These opportunities are not only economic, but also include cultural and social benefits which can enrich communities for years after the Games are over."

Phillips has worked with every Australian Olympic Team, since 1992. He is the chief operating officer for the 2008 Olympic Team and team executive for the 2010 Winter Olympic Team. Phillips will draw on these experiences to discuss what communities can do to attract and host international teams leading up to 2010, and how businesses can capitalize on the tourism, hospitality, recreation and training needs of those teams.

"As we move toward 2010, we’re offering communities numerous occasions to learn from past Games," said Bruce Dewar, chief executive officer, 2010 Legacies Now. "Craig Phillips will demonstrate how communities beyond Vancouver and Whistler can benefit from B.C. hosting the 2010 Winter Games and create lasting legacies of their own."

Sponsored by RBC, the Province of British Columbia and CTV, the RBC 2010 Legacies Now Speaker Series provides communities and local businesses with opportunities to learn from individuals who played key roles in developing business, tourism, community and economic opportunities at previous Olympic and Paralympic Games. Phillips is the fifth speaker of this program and will speak in Kamloops, Prince George and Vancouver.

"As the Premier National Banking Partner for the 2010 Winter Games, RBC is committed to helping companies across B.C. identify and capitalize on opportunities arising from the Games," said Betty MacLeod, senior manager, Olympic Business Development, RBC.

"The 2010 Winter Games provide a once in a lifetime chance to showcase the best of this entire province on the world stage," said Colin Hansen, Minister of Economic Development and Minister Responsible for the Asia-Pacific Initiative and the Olympics. "By learning from the experiences of speakers like Craig Phillips we can ensure that not a single opportunity passes by B.C."

Phillips will also participate in live webcast interview at noon on Friday, December 7th. Viewers can watch the interview and send questions for Philips at www.2010LegaciesNow.com.
