Program description:
Assistance is available to BC Community Arts Councils to: provide access to a range of artistic and cultural activities; develop and encourage leadership for the arts and culture at the community level; and, encourage support for the arts and culture from local and regional governments. Program description:
Awards are available to support periodicals devoted primarily (at least 75 %) to the first publication of any form of artistic expression or social, cultural or intellectual commentary or inquiry.

Program eligibility:
Eligible applicants must have been registered as a non-profit society in the Province of British Columbia and have completed at least one full year of operation, be able to present a financial statement for that year, and have financial guarantees and firm program proposals for a second consecutive year of operation. An eligible periodical must: be printed on paper; average at least 24 pages per issue over a one-year period; publish at least three issues per year; have a paid circulation of at least 500 copies per issue; have at least 50% of its circulation paid (as opposed to free distribution); demonstrate a commitment to paying contribution writers for their work. Program description:
This Canada Council for the Arts program contributes to the activities of professional Canadian choirs, including community choirs that meet the eligibility criteria, from any cultural background. Program: New Music Program (Multi-year and Annual Funding)

Program description:
This Canada Council for the Arts program provides assistance to Canadian professional ensembles, performing groups, producers, presenters and non-profit organizations devoted to the development and presentation of new music in public venues and before a live audience.

Program eligibility:
Applicants applying for multi-year funding must be incorporated non-profit organizations with a board of directors. Organizations with less formal structures are eligible for annual and project funding. All required activities must take place in the organization’s home market. Multi-year funding applicants must have presented at least two full seasons of local performances, including at least three different programs, ensuring consistency and continuity in their yearly series of concerts/events. A minimum of three different programming events are required annually. These must be ticketed events. Program description:
The Inter-Arts Program supports creation, production, dissemination and professional development of independent work by Canadian inter-arts professional artists and arts organizations in one of three inter-arts practices (including artists and community collaboration activities in one of these three artistic practices); performance art, interdisciplinary work and new artistic practices.

Program eligibility:

Program description:
Assistance to Media Arts Production Organizations offers operating assistance to Canadian non-profit, artist-run media arts organizations. The level of operating assistance approved by the Canada Council for the Arts covers one or two years. Organizations that receive annual or multi-year assistance may also obtain equipment acquisition assistance.

Program eligibility:
To be eligible for operating assistance, applicant organizations must: have completed at least two full years of activities as a legally incorporated, non-profit organization in Canada; have a board of directors, the majority of whose members are practising artists, using media in their practice, and/or media arts professionals such as curators or critics; have as one of their principal mandates to provide ongoing support to research, creation, development and/or production of independent media artworks by Canadian artists; be able to demonstrate that, with their assistance, a body of independent media artworks has been developed or completed by Canadian artists over the past year; have an established administrative structure, including bylaws, policies and clearly defined responsibilities for staff and board members; and demonstrate sound financial management.

Program: Annual Assistance to Media Arts Festivals

Program description:
The Canada Council for the Arts views media arts festivals as key events for raising the profile of Canadian, independent media artists and their works. The Council views them as central in linking artworks to audiences, distributors, curators, exhibitors and broadcasters and to stimulating dialogue and exchange between artists and the public at large.

Program eligibility:
Festivals must have been in operation for at least three years and have produced at least three full festivals. Applicants must demonstrate a serious, ongoing commitment to presenting independent film, video, audio and/or new media artworks produced by Canadian media artists. This program offers financial assistance to artist-run centres that provide visual artists and their audiences with an informed and professional forum for research, production, presentation, promotion and dissemination of new works in contemporary visual arts. Program: Grants to Literary and Art Magazines

Program description:
This program encourages excellence in artistic expression and fosters awareness of the contemporary arts and literature in Canada, through support for the publication of literary and art magazines.

Program eligibility:
Publishers of magazines that meet the criteria listed below are eligible to apply. They must: have published at least three issues of the magazine before applying for a grant and be committed to a continuing magazine publishing program (although magazines with fewer published issues may be eligible for support from the New Magazines component, described below); have identified the target audience for the magazine and developed an appropriate distribution method to reach it; have a paid circulation of at least 50 percent of the copies printed or maintain at least a 25 percent ratio of revenues earned from paid circulation or advertising (except for electronic magazines) - for magazines linked with an association, or sharing editorial resources with another organization, only copies sold to non-members are taken into consideration; and have and honour a clear policy with respect to the use of contributors’ writing and intellectual property. To be eligible for support, magazines must: be written principally in English, French or one of Canada’s Aboriginal languages; be at least 75 percent Canadian-owned; be published at least twice a year; focus mainly on editorial content written or created by Canadians; have a demonstrated editorial capability and financial stability; focus mainly on previously unpublished material; and have a print run of at least 500 copies per issue, but not exceed 25,000 copies per issue (except for electronic magazines). Electronically published magazines are eligible if they are published on a regular basis and can demonstrate a minimum of 250 visits per issue. They must meet the same content and quality criteria as do magazines printed on paper (including a clearly established and honoured policy respecting the use of writers’ intellectual property).

Program description:
The National Arts Training Contribution Program supports independent, non-profit, incorporated, Canadian organizations that train Canadians for professional national/international artistic careers. The artistic impacts of these organizations are pan-Canadian. Through their achievements, these organizations support the cultural development of Canada. This program provides support on a multi-year or annual basis for the ongoing operational activities of the organizations' professional program. Funding is not for capital infrastructure.
