For Early Learning Practitioners
LEAP BC™ believes that physical activity, literacy development, and healthy eating are mutually supportive and can be integrated within child-focused settings to promote the healthy development of children.
LEAP BC™ is committed to:
- Recognizing and respecting the work currently being done by early learning practitioners across the province of British Columbia
- Providing support to practitioners interested in integrating LEAP BC™ into their programs and services
2010 Legacies Now, in partnership with the Province of British Columbia and the University of Victoria, has developed resources specifically for early learning practitioners and is hosting interactive LEAP BC™ "train the trainer" workshops across the province.
Through an application process, fifteen early learning practitioners (representing a variety of early years sectors) are being identified per region for training. Upon completion of their initial training and after hosting two LEAP BC™ workshops in their region, the practitioners will receive certification as workshop leaders for Healthy Opportunities for Preschoolers (HOP) and Food Flair for Child Care (a Ministry of Health publication).
The aim of the LEAP BC™ "train the trainer" workshops is to empower workshop leaders to share their newly-acquired skills and knowledge with early learning practitioners in their community with the tools and information they need to promote physically active play and the development of fundamental motor and literacy skills, in settings where children in their early years live, learn and play.
Practitioners who need support to attend a "train the trainer" workshop and host workshops in their own community/region will receive a travel stipend and LEAP BC™ early learning practitioner resources.
