VOLUNTEER BC PARTNERS WITH 2010 LEGACIES NOW TO DELIVER RECRUITMENT TOOL TO VOLUNTEER CENTRES

Vancouver, B.C. (September 14, 2007): 2010 Legacies Now and Volunteer BC will work together to ensure B.C. volunteer centres have access to the Volunteer Centre Opportunity Listings Tool, a component of 2010 Legacies Now’s online volunteer recruitment website VolWeb.ca™.

"2010 Legacies Now is working to increase volunteer participation across British Columbia, and strengthen the volunteer sector’s ability to achieve excellence," said Bruce Dewar, CEO of 2010 Legacies Now. "We want to make sure B.C. volunteer centres and their member agencies benefit from this tool for years to come, and Volunteer BC, as the provincial leader in promoting the value of volunteering, is in the best position to help us do that."

The Opportunity Listings Tool gives a volunteer centre’s member agencies the ability to list a new volunteer position, change information on a posting or delete positions that no longer need filling – all online, quickly and easily. For potential volunteers, this online system provides up-to-date information and enables them to search for opportunities based on their interests and availability. Volunteer centres in Victoria, Richmond, Chilliwack, Surrey and Delta have signed on to use this free system since it was introduced in 2006. The tool is a component of VolWeb.ca™, a free volunteer recruitment website designed to connect volunteers with event organizers across B.C.

As outlined in a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by the two organizations, Volunteer BC is now responsible for the promotion and delivery of the Opportunity Listings Tool to new or existing volunteer centres throughout the province.

"We are excited to partner with 2010 Legacies Now to offer this kind of strategic tool to B.C. volunteer centres," said Michael McCoy, president of Volunteer BC. "The Opportunity Listings Tool is a valuable resource that will help us enhance the ability of volunteer centres to recruit potential volunteers and match them with the right organization and position."

In the MOU, 2010 Legacies Now and Volunteer BC agree to work together to ensure the Opportunity Listings Tool continues to be available free of charge to B.C. volunteer centres. The two organizations also reinforce their commitment to collaborate on the promotion and enhancement of volunteer engagement, and to build capacity within B.C.’s volunteer sector.

"A strong and vital volunteer force is an integral part of a healthy community," said Stan Hagen, Minister of Tourism, Sport and the Arts. "That’s why our government has invested in B.C.’s volunteer sector through 2010 Legacies Now. The Opportunity Listings Tool is a living legacy of that investment, and we hope volunteer centres continue to reap the benefits."
