DELTASSIST LINKS WITH VOLWEB.CA™ TO MAKE IT EASIER TO VOLUNTEER
Delta, B.C. (June 12, 2007): Deltassist Family and Community Services is partnering with 2010 Legacies Now to increase access to volunteer opportunities for Delta residents who are seeking ways to contribute to their community.
"We are excited to launch our new online Volunteer Opportunity Listings, which will be available through our website June 18," said Doug Sabourin, executive director of Deltassist Family and Community Services. "Thanks to our partnership with 2010 Legacies Now, we can offer this enhanced service to volunteers and the agencies that depend on their gift of time and expertise."
VolWeb.ca™, 2010 Legacies Now’s free volunteer recruitment website designed to connect volunteers with event organizers across B.C., will host and provide added capacity for Delta’s Volunteer Opportunity Listings. Using VolWeb.ca recruiting tools, Delta’s community partners will be able to list a new volunteer position, change information on a posting or delete positions that no longer need filling – all online, quickly and easily. For potential volunteers, the online system will provide the most up-to-date information and enable them to conduct a search based on their interests and availability.
"Through Volunteers Now, 2010 Legacies Now is working to increase volunteer involvement for organizations reliant on volunteers," said Mary MacKillop, director of Volunteers Now for 2010 Legacies Now. "VolWeb.ca™ recruiting tools support the efforts of B.C. volunteer centres to bring organizations and potential volunteers together for mutual benefit."
On June 18, the online Volunteer Opportunity Listings will be available to the general public with more than 116 volunteer opportunities, including positions such as: working with seniors, supporting youth programs, assisting with office and clerical duties, and participating in recreational programs. Residents will be able to access these opportunities and more through the Deltassist website at www.deltassist.com.
Delta residents interested in volunteering at local events, like festivals or sport tournaments, can log on to www.VolWeb.ca at any time. Registration is fast and easy, and will enable potential volunteers to connect with event organizers in Delta and across the province.
"Volunteering is a great way to give back to the community," said Valerie Roddick, MLA for Delta South. "This partnership will help connect agencies and the people they serve with community members hoping to support others and learn new skills."
VolWeb.ca™ originally launched this service for volunteer centres in August 2006, with Volunteer Victoria as the pilot user. Since that time, Volunteer Victoria’s volunteer opportunities database has received more than 75,000 page views.
Deltassist responds to the community needs of Delta in a manner which enhances the social, psychological and physical well being of individuals, families and the community.
