What funding is available from 2010 Legacies Now?
Up to $10,000 has been available for community planning. Most communities in BC have completed, or are currently involved in, planning. Implementation funds are possible and depend upon availability.
How do I know if my community is already involved in the Literacy Now Communities program?
Have a look at the completed Literacy Now Community Plans. If your town or region is not listed there, please contact Lori Walker, Program Manager, Literacy, via email (lwalker(at)2010LegaciesNow.com) or by phone at 778-327-5185. You can also call 1-866-427-2010 toll free for more information.
Where can I get more information on literacy in my community and across BC
Most BC communities involved in the Literacy Now Communities program have hired Literacy Outreach Coordinators (LOCs) to assist in implementing their community plan. To identify the LOC in your community, contact Lori Walker, Program Manager, Literacy, via email (lwalker(at)2010LegaciesNow.com) or by phone at 778-327-5185.

To support the work of British Columbians involved with literacy and early learning, 2010 Legacies Now offers the Community of Literacy Practice website. This website offers literacy links and resources along with discussion and meeting opportunities. You can access the Community of Literacy Practice Community of Literacy Practice from the 2010 Legacies Now website homepage, from the Literacy BC website, or from the Literacy Central website.
2010 Legacies Now works closely with Literacy BC to offer Literacy Central, (www.literacycentral.bc.ca), a one-stop portal for literacy public awareness resources in the province. This website provides information on promoting literacy events and raising awareness of literacy issues across the province. Communicating About Literacy: Developing Your Communications Strategy is a guide to support this work and is available online on the Literacy Central website.
2010 Legacies Now offers Family Literacy and Early Literacy and Learning resources including LEAP BC, PALS, Immigrant PALS, Aboriginal PALS, and Strong Start training. For more information, download the Early Literacy and Learning available services and resources in PDF.
ReadNow BC, (www.readnowbc.ca), is a government action plan that promotes literacy programs and resources to help all British Columbians improve their reading skills.
The Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development is responsible for post-secondary education, labour force development and immigration programs. Find their programs and services for learners at www.aved.gov.bc.ca/index/students.htm. This Ministry also supports non-profit organizations and post-secondary education institutions to provide programs to adults wishing to improve their literacy through Community Adult Literacy Program (CALP) grants.
