VOLUNTEER RICHMOND LINKS WITH VOLWEB.CA™ TO MAKE IT EASIER TO VOLUNTEER
Vancouver, B.C. (February 5, 2007): 2010 Legacies Now and Volunteer Richmond have partnered to increase access to volunteer opportunities for Richmond residents who are seeking ways to contribute to their community.
“Volunteer centres are a community connection for every sector reliant on volunteers, such as sport, faith or health,” said Mary MacKillop, director of Volunteers Now at 2010 Legacies Now. “VolWeb.ca™ recruiting tools enable volunteer centres to provide these added benefits to their members, and they widen the net to attract more volunteers to more volunteer opportunities across B.C.”
VolWeb.ca™, a free volunteer recruitment website designed to connect volunteers with event organizers across B.C., is now hosting and providing added capacity for Volunteer Richmond’s opportunities listings. On the Volunteer Richmond! website, member agencies can list a new volunteer position, change information on a posting or delete positions that no longer need filling – all online, quickly and easily. For potential volunteers, the online system will provide the most up-to-date information and enable them to conduct a search based on their interests and availability.
“Many people want to give back to their community and gain valuable volunteer experience, but they are restricted by their schedule or want to develop their skills in a particular field, like health care, theatre production or coaching,” said Elizabeth Specht, executive director of Volunteer Richmond Information Services. “Our new volunteer opportunities listings will make it easier for people to find a position that’s right for them.”
The Volunteer Richmond! site launched today with approximately 50 volunteer opportunities, including positions such as: emergency triage volunteer for Delta Hospital, graphic designer for the Richmond chapter of the B.C. Schizophrenia Society, volunteer interpreter for the Richmond Food Bank, and gift shop clerk for the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society. All of these volunteer opportunities and more can now be found at www.volunteerrichmond.ca.
“Volunteers are the backbone of programs and events all across the province, making our communities better places to live, work and play,” said Stan Hagen, Minister of Tourism, Sport and the Arts, and Minister Responsible for Volunteers. “This partnership supports our government’s efforts to strengthen the volunteer sector throughout British Columbia.”
VolWeb.ca™ originally launched this service for volunteer centres in August 2006, with Volunteer Victoria as the pilot user. Since that time, Volunteer Victoria’s volunteer opportunities database has received more than 50,000 page views. 2010 Legacies Now anticipates the announcement of more partnerships with B.C. volunteer centres over the next few months.
2010 Legacies Now is a not-for-profit society that works in partnership with community organizations, non-government organizations, the private sector and all levels of government to develop sustainable legacies in sport and recreation, arts, literacy and volunteerism. 2010 Legacies Now actively assists communities to discover and create unique and inclusive social and economic opportunities leading up to and beyond the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
