Literacy Now Communities program

The Literacy Now Communities program guides communities through a planning process to identify local literacy needs.

The Literacy Now Communities planning process focuses on building partnerships, networking and sharing best practices within BC’s communities and regions.

The planning process has three stages:

Stage One: Getting Started

To join the program, partners within a community or region must submit an expression of interest to 2010 Legacies Now and form a literacy task group.

Stage Two: Preparing the Community Plan
A literacy task group that has demonstrated a broad base of interest and commitment within the community is then asked to apply for up to $10,000 to help with the development of a literacy plan.

Stage Three: Implementation
Once planning is complete, the literacy task group is eligible for funding to help with the implementation of their literacy plan.

The community-based planning process is outlined in 2010 Legacies Now's Community Literacy Planning Guide.

The Literacy Now Communities program is supported by the Province of BC.
