Bringing sport events home

The Hosting BC™ grant program promotes sport tourism in the province by supporting communities in hosting national and international sport events.

Hosting BC grants program

Between 2004 and 2009, Hosting BC provided hosting grants of $2.7 million to 34 communities hosting 197 sport events.  Hosting grants were delivered to host committees throughout the province, contributing to their efforts to bring sport events home and to raise the profile of BC communities in the sport tourism sector. Hosting BC is a partnership of the Province of British Columbia, Tourism British Columbia and 2010 Legacies Now. These partners are committed to building BC’s reputation as a premier sport event destination and maximizing sport tourism opportunities leading up to, and beyond the 2010 Winter Games. Hosting grants supported Canadian championships, World Cups and Olympic Games qualifying tournaments ranging from an international wheelchair curling bonspiel in Richmond to a national college soccer championship in Kamloops.

Update on Hosting BC grants

The Hosting BC grants have been suspended for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. Due to significant over-subscription of the program, the program is currently under review and will be revisited again next year. If you would like to keep updated on the Hosting BC grant program, please check this website for postings in 2010.

The Hosting BC brand

The Hosting BC grant program has its own logo, design and brand, which allows 2010 Legacies Now to support events alongside sponsors who may be outside the Olympic and Paralympic family without infringing on pre-arranged sponsor and partner agreements.
