ARTS NOW LAUNCHES ARTS BUILD COMMUNITIES IN B.C.
Vancouver, B.C. (April 20, 2006): Communities and arts organizations will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge in developing arts and cultural celebrations thanks to the new Arts Build Communities Program launched today by 2010 Legacies Now. The Arts Build Communities Program will encompass a series of workshops, toolkits and other resources to assist communities in developing their artistic resources.
To launch the program, Dolly Hopkins, the Artistic Director of Public Dreams, introduced the Celebrations Toolkit at a webcast today, and invited communities to apply for an Arts Build Communities workshop.
The Arts Build Communities Program offers organizations interested in developing a community celebration the opportunity to host an in-depth workshop, which will be facilitated by Hopkins.
As well, a Celebrations Tool Kit, which provides communities with information and ideas to create arts and cultural celebrations of any size, using the existing resources and creative energy a community possesses, is available online at
“We are extremely pleased to work with Public Dreams Society in developing the Celebrations Toolkit and workshops,” said Lori Baxter, Director, Arts Now. “I am confident this program will help encourage more communities to get involved in creating amazing arts and cultural community celebrations in B.C.”
The goal of the program is to encourage the creation and production of arts and cultural community celebrations across British Columbia, particularly during Spirit of BC Week, held in February of each year.
“There are many excellent reasons to create a celebration: to promote community well-being, to have fun, to celebrate, or to draw attention to the beauty of where you live,” said Hopkins. “Using our experience in creating hundreds of celebrations, we’ll take communities on a step-by-step journey to turn their vision into reality.”
