VOLWEB.CA™ HOSTS VOLUNTEER VICTORIA OPPORTUNITIES LISTINGS
Vancouver, B.C. (September 29, 2006): 2010 Legacies Now and Volunteer Victoria have partnered to give Volunteer Victoria’s member agencies the ability to manage all their volunteer opportunities online through VolWeb.ca™.
“2010 Legacies Now is celebrating the one-year anniversary of VolWeb.ca this month, and we’re excited about using the technology behind VolWeb.ca to help Volunteer Victoria meet the needs of its member agencies,” said Mary MacKillop, director of Volunteers Now for 2010 Legacies Now. “Volunteer Victoria’s new online opportunities listings are making it easier for organizations to provide information to prospective volunteers.”
VolWeb.ca, a web-based registration system designed to connect volunteers with event organizers across B.C., is now hosting and providing added capacity for Volunteer Victoria’s opportunities listings. Member agencies can list a new volunteer position, change information on a posting or delete positions that no longer need filling – all online, quickly and easily. The online system will remind users to check their postings every three months, to ensure potential volunteers receive the most up-to-date information.
“Volunteering benefits individuals, but it also strengthens communities,” said Stan Hagen, minister responsible for volunteers. “This partnership is a great example of how we can work together to improve the lives of our family, friends and neighbours in communities throughout the province.”
“The pilot phase of this project began in August, and since then the feedback from our member agencies has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Val Green, executive director of Volunteer Victoria. “The online system is flexible and efficient. Our members love being able to post and update their own listings, and after seeing how the system works, non-member agencies are inquiring about signing up.”
“We’re committed to increasing volunteer involvement across B.C. and strengthening the volunteer sector’s ability to achieve excellence,” said MacKillop. “The collaborative work we’re doing with Volunteer Victoria will enable us to partner with volunteer centres around the province to create a network of online opportunities.”
In January, 2010 Legacies Now will ask for expressions of interest from volunteer centre administrators wishing to learn more about having VolWeb.ca host their opportunities listings.
